October 18th, On This day in Elvis history

Elvis was booked on charges of assault and battery and disorderly conduct, together with 2 others. Apparently Elvis
stopped for gas at a pump station and was surrounded by fans. The man from the gas station didn't liked that and told
Elvis to move on. Then there was a fight and when the man pulled a knife Elvis gave him a black eye.
Critics eagerly pointed out that Elvis was not perfect when, on Oct.19,the San Francisco Chronicle, the Tupelo Daily Journal, and the New York
Times reported that Elvis had hit the owner of a gas station. On October 18,Elvis pulled into a Memphis gas station, and naturally his
presence caused a near riot.Who else drove a $10,000 Cadilac in that part of town? Ed Hopper, the owner of the gas station, hit Elvis in the head and told
him to leave the station.. Fans crushed Hopper against the pumps. Elvis retaliated and defended himself, and when Hopper's assisant come to Hopper's aid,
Elvis belted him too. A Memphis judge found Elvis an innocent victm of an assault and battery.
